Devotional
Our anchor scripture reveals a powerful truth: God’s mercy is new every morning.
The word morning here is a double entendre that is, it carries both literal and metaphorical meaning.
Literally, morning refers to the time when the sun rises each day. Metaphorically, it signifies the beginning of something. For example, the early stage of a person’s life is often called the morning of their life. In the same way, the beginning of the year represents the morning of the year.
Scripture gives us insight into how critical this morning season is.
Ecclesiastes 10:16 says: – “Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, And your princes feast in the morning.”
The morning of the year is not a time for indulgence; it is a time for seeking God. It is a time to obtain mercy that will sustain us for the remainder of the year. This is why the beginning of the year demands fasting and prayer.
Mercy is essential for navigating the intricacies and uncertainties of life. We obtain mercy from the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16), and it is sacred indeed, strategic that we seek it in the morning.
Every year comes with its own peculiar needs and unique pressures. It is the mercy of God that preserves us from being overwhelmed by them. Without mercy, the weight of a season can crush even the strong.
Therefore, our approach to God at the start of a new year must be marked by humility of heart in prayer, and the brokenness of the flesh through fasting.
While power helps us enter seasons, mercy sustains us through them. We are alive today not by strength, wisdom, or effort, but by the mercy of the Lord.
Mercy grants us access when strength fails and preserves us while power is still being built.
As we journey through the year, mercy becomes our daily sustenance. Every morning brings fresh compassion from God, ensuring that we are not consumed by the pressures and demands of life.
Prayer:
Lord, let Your mercy speak for me throughout this year. Amen.
Declaration:
I am preserved by the mercy of the Lord.
